The European Union is providing €93 million (US$104m) to help support the estimated one million Bangladeshi garment staff who've either been let go or permanently lost their jobs due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

It's part of a €334 million US$373m) aid package from 'Team Europe' - which comprises the EU, its member states and European finance institutions - to help fight the pandemic in Bangladesh.

THE BUSINESS ENTERPRISE Standard newspaper in Bangladesh reports that the main one million employees would each receive 3,000 Bangladeshi Taka (US$35.40) per month for three months initially, from June to August.
